A New Line to the Valley: Via Ferrata Access to the Typee Glacier
We’re thrilled to announce improvements to the terrain at Battle Abbey Backcountry Lodge: a permanent via ferrata route connecting Billy Goat Bowl to the Typee Glacier. This fixed line—usable in both winter and summer—ushers in a new era of access, adventure, and safety at Weber Powder. This is "The Campaign Traverse" at Battle Abbey.
Why is this such a game changer?
In winter, avalanche terrain management is everything. Our new via ferrata allows skiers to bypass a traditionally exposed zone and safely reach the upper Typee Glacier without unnecessary risk. This route gives a more direct and secure path to one of the most spectacular glaciated zones in our tenure.
Via Ferrata access means you don't have to be an experienced climber or skilled mountaineer to undertake the traverse. You clip in a walk the route.
And what lies on the other side? One of the longest fall-line descents on our map: a jaw-dropping 1200 vertical meters from the summit of the Typee Glacier to the valley bottom just below the lodge. Ski from an alpine ridge through flowing glacier terrain, navigate natural moraine spines, and finish with a playful cruise through the forest. Beautiful skiing for all abilities.
But don’t celebrate too early—your run ends with the notorious Grizzly Trot: the climb back up to Battle Abbey. You’ll earn your beer and stories on this one. Our kitchen team is there to make sure the Après ski snacks are perfectly suited ;-)
We designed this route with long-term vision: for powder-hungry skiers in winter, for adventurous hikers and mountaineers in the summer months, and for everyone who dreams of high-mountain flow lines with a wild twist.
Whether you're joining us for a week of deep winter touring or summer high-alpine traverses, this new route to the Typee Glacier is waiting.
Come explore new ground—top to bottom.
