Building the Future of Mountain Access: Our New Hangar & Training Centre in Golden, BC

We’re excited to share a major milestone for Weber Powder and Battle Abbey Backcountry Lodge: the construction of our new aircraft hangar and training centre at the Golden, BC airport (in 2026).

This purpose-built hangar will become our forward base of operations — the gateway to your Battle Abbey experience. From the moment guests arrive, the space will set the tone for a seamless, world-class mountain adventure.

A Purpose-Built Gateway for Guests

The hangar will serve as the staging hub for helicopter flights to Battle Abbey, featuring a comfortable lounge and espresso bar where you can enjoy a perfect coffee while waiting for your flight into the Selkirks. Guests will also have access to private parking and secure bag storage while they’re away at the lodge — making travel simpler and more comfortable from the start.

Avalanche Training Before You Fly

Safety is central to every experience we create. Before boarding the helicopter and being dropped into the alpine, guests will complete their avalanche safety orientation and training in the new hangar. This dedicated space will allow our guiding team to deliver clear, thorough briefings and practice essential safety skills in a comfortable, controlled environment — setting everyone up for confidence in the backcountry.

Supporting Elevated Culinary Experiences

Behind the scenes, the facility will include walk-in refrigerators, freezers and cold storage to better preserve fresh produce and specialty ingredients. For our culinary team, this means improved ingredient quality and more ambitious menus — elevating the dining experience at Battle Abbey to new heights.

Training & Operations Hub

The hangar will also be home to our guide training and operational centre, ensuring our team has the space and resources to prepare for safe, world-class skiing and mountaineering adventures. This facility will allow us to continue raising the bar for guest safety, logistics and experience.
