This fall, the Weber Powder team completed a multi-week glading program at Battle Abbey Backcountry Lodge, focused on enhancing the tree skiing from the lodge all the way to the valley bottom. Our goal was simple: open up more of the forest for fun, safe, and flowing skiing in one of the most iconic alpine valleys of the Selkirks.
Focus Areas
The work concentrated on classic zones such as the Wood Lot, Grizzly Trot, and more, where careful brushing and tree spacing has made the terrain more approachable for all ability levels. In addition, the team created a brand-new ski line, now officially named “Quebexico.” This line runs directly from the lodge elevation into the Butters Creek valley, dropping more than 550 vertical meters through beautifully spaced glades and connecting to an improved Grizzly Trot uptrack for easy returns.

The Glading Program
Glading at Battle Abbey means more than just opening a few runs—it’s a long-term investment in the guest experience. Over several weeks, the crew focused on:
Removing tree fences that slowed ski flow.
Brushing dense undergrowth and smaller trees to improve visibility and safety.
Creating alleys and fall-line corridors that naturally guide skiers through the terrain.
These improvements strike a balance between keeping the forest’s character intact and maximizing its skiability.

Looking Ahead
This year’s work is just the beginning. Over the next eight years, Weber Powder is committed to steadily expanding and refining the tree skiing throughout the Battle Abbey tenure. The vision is to provide world-class glade skiing for everyone—from beginners finding their flow close to the lodge, to seasoned skiers seeking deep powder runs from Alpine to valley floor.
Our vision is to ensure tree skiing at Battle Abbey becomes a signature part of the experience.
