Battle Abbey: Helicopter Medivac Insurance Now Available

As a backcountry skier and co-owner of Weber Powder, I’m often asked where to purchase insurance for a ski trip in BC. I’ve often found that policies can be expensive or difficult to obtain. That’s why we decided to offer helicopter medivac insurance directly to our guests—an affordable, hassle-free option to ensure you have access to emergency transport if needed.

At Weber Powder, safety is our top priority. We’re pleased to announce that starting in January 2026 we now offer optional helicopter medivac insurance for all guests staying at Battle Abbey Backcountry Lodge. This ensures that in the event of an injury that needs treatment in a hospital, you have a reliable way to get to the nearest hospital without the stress of costly emergency transport.

For $100, our medivac insurance will cover the cost of a helicopter flight from Battle Abbey to the Golden, BC airport. From there, we can help arrange ground transportation—whether by taxi or ambulance—to reach the hospital for treatment.

Why Choose Helicopter Medivac Insurance?

Backcountry skiing and snowboarding come with inherent risks, and while we do everything we can to mitigate them, accidents can happen. If you experience an injury that requires transportation to higher levels of care, a helicopter flight is the quickest and safest way to get you to medical care. Without insurance, the cost of such a flight can be significant. With this affordable add-on, you can have peace of mind knowing that emergency transport is covered.

How It Works

  • Guests can opt into the medivac insurance when booking their stay at Battle Abbey.
  • If an injury occurs and evacuation is required, a helicopter will transport the injured guest to Golden, BC airport.

How to Purchase Medivac Insurance

The helicopter medivac insurance will be included as an option on the final bill for all guests traveling to Battle Abbey. Guests will have the opportunity to opt in or out when they pay their final balance. I highly encourage all guests to consider adding this coverage for their peace of mind during their backcountry adventure.

See you in the mountains!
