Battle Abbey: Heli-Assist Welcome Day

A New Way to Start Your Ski Touring Adventure at Battle Abbey

This winter, we’re changing the game.

Starting this season, all ski touring trips to Battle Abbey Backcountry Lodge will kick off with a new format. We’re introducing a new heli-assisted welcome that brings avalanche training, big mountain skiing, and lodge arrival into one seamless and unforgettable first day.

Here's how it works:

Guests will still meet at the Golden, BC airport, but now an hour earlier to complete avalanche safety training on-site with our guiding team. Once training is complete, you’ll gear up fully—dressed to ski with your boots on, skis and pack ready—and board the helicopter for the flight into Battle Abbey.

But rather than heading straight to the lodge, your trip begins at the top.

Your guides will unload your overnight gear at the lodge, then stay with you for a heli drop onto one of our nearby alpine summits. From there, you’ll ski your first run—an epic descent through untouched terrain—all the way down to the lodge.

This heli-assisted start is weather permitting, and when conditions allow, it’s one of the most exciting ways to begin a ski touring trip anywhere in British Columbia.

It’s a beautiful way to begin your time in the Selkirks.

This new format lets you maximize your ski time and kickstart your trip with a true backcountry experience right from the first turn. You’ll arrive at the lodge already immersed in the terrain, having laid down your first signature line of the week.

Whether it’s your first time at Battle Abbey or your fifth, this new arrival format promises an unforgettable start. It’s part of our commitment to blending safety, logistics, and the best skiing experience possible.

Heli-accessed alpine terrain, avalanche-training-ready, skis on, and powder underfoot—before you even unpack.
