This March, Robb Report profiled Battle Abbey in a feature titled “A Pilgrimage to Powder,” describing our lodge as “a remote, storied ski sanctuary—equal parts grit, grace, and bottomless Selkirk snow” See the full story here.
For Nansen and Tessum Weber, Battle Abbey represents far more than a ski lodge. It is the continuation of a family legacy rooted in exploration, endurance, and reverence for wild places. Perched above treeline at 7,200 feet in British Columbia’s Selkirk Mountains, Battle Abbey has long been a cathedral for ski mountaineers. Today, under Weber Powder, it is being reimagined for a new era of mountain travelers—those seeking both authentic adventure and thoughtful hospitality.
The experience begins not with lifts or crowds, but with skin tracks climbing toward unnamed horizons. From the front door, guests access 12,500 acres of glades, glaciers, couloirs, and high-alpine summits. Days are earned— ascending ridgelines in swirling weather, carving 3,600-foot descents through featherlight powder, and returning to the lodge powder-drunk and exhilarated.
Raised in a family of Arctic explorers and competitive Nordic racers, the brothers grew up in some of the most remote environments on Earth. Before Battle Abbey, they established the world’s northernmost heli-ski operation on Baffin Island and pioneered superyacht-based heli-skiing in Greenland. When they discovered Battle Abbey, Tessum described it simply: “the last piece of paradise in B.C.”
Since acquiring the lodge, the Weber Powder team has carefully rebuilt and refined it—staying true to its granite-and-timber soul while elevating the guest experience. The five-room lodge hosts just ten guests at a time, paired with four professional ski guides—one of the highest guide-to-guest ratios in the industry. Evenings feature hyper-local, Michelin-caliber cuisine, a curated 750-bottle wine cellar, craft beer on tap, an espresso bar, and a barrel sauna overlooking nine glaciers.
But as Robb Report notes, the real luxury here is intimacy: the quiet rhythm of uphill travel, the space to breathe between turns, and the ceremonial stillness that follows a long alpine descent.
Battle Abbey was originally founded as a private mountain retreat for heli-ski pioneer Hans Gmoser and his closest ski-touring friends—a place to escape the rush of commercial operations and reconnect with the mountains on their own terms. In many ways, Nansen and Tessum have brought that original ethos full circle.
Battle Abbey is not about checking vertical meters. It is about pilgrimage—earning your turns, sharing stories around a long timber table, and stepping into a landscape that feels vast, raw, and deeply alive.
We are honored to see Battle Abbey’s next chapter recognized on the pages of Robb Report. And we are even more excited to welcome guests into this remarkable corner of the Selkirks to experience it for themselves.
See you all in the mountains!
